Keelung Customs Busts 312 Kilograms of Ketamine

55289565371.jpgKeelung Customs busted 312 kilograms of Ketamine concealed in a shipment from China on April 8, 2015. With a street value at about NT$150 million (US$5 million), the interdicted drug was hidden in the false bottom of 12 wooden cases packed with miscellaneous goods including advertising Chinese characters and ironware.

Applying risk management techniques, officers from the Customs’ Inspection Division targeted the shipment based on the data declared in its import manifest, and informed the Customs’ detector dog team to sniff out the goods upon they were unstuffed from a container in an inland container terminal. Seeing the obvious changes in the detector dogs’ behavior, officers thus opened the bottom of the wooden boxes. As it turned out, 300 packages of Ketamine wrapped with black carbon paper were found inside the false bottom of the wooden cases.

After the case was referred to the Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB) for further investigation, the masterminds were arrested in Kaohsiung County by agents from MJIB and Keelung Harbor Police Office in early May.
