74288493971.jpgOn April 19, 2017, Kaohsiung Customs seized a transshipment container of smuggled Marlboro cigarettes without receiving any prior confidential report of smuggling. According to Kaohsiung Customs, some officers were screening manifests by following risk management procedures when a container from Malaysia was found to be suspicious. Declared as containing Textile Fabric and intended to be transshipped to the Philippines, this container was found during inspection to hold Marlboro cigarettes, which had not been listed in the manifest. As a result, a total of 459,500 packs (919 boxes) of cigarettes were detained as detailed by Customs Anti-smuggling Act.

Director of Kaohsiung Customs, when complimenting the contributing officers at the scene, indicated that Customs authorities are in charge of border control, as well as smuggling prevention and interception. In order to ensure tax revenue for the country, and to protect the health of all nationals, Customs authorities will enforce inspection constantly to prevent smuggled cigarettes from entering our territory. The public is encouraged to report any suspected smuggling activities to the Customs by calling the toll-free number: 0800-711117.
