The Administrative Directive on Mutual Recognition of AEO between Taiwan and Israel was Signed in Taipei

The Administrative Directive on Mutual Recognition of AEO between Taiwan and Israel was signed at the closing ceremony of the 10th Taiwan-Israel Economic and Technological Cooperation Conference in Taipei on December 10, 2013. The Administrative Directive was signed by Taiwan Customs Administration’s Director General Liang Wang and Israel Customs’ Director General Moshe Asher, while it was witnessed by Representative Liang-Jen Chang of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Tel Aviv and Representative Simona Halperin of the Israel Economic and Cultural Office in Taipei.

At the signing ceremony, Director General Wang stressed that this is the first AEO MRA(Mutual Recognition Arrangement) signed in Taiwan, and Israel’s first MRA of its kind with other countries. Therefore, the inking of this Administrative Directive symbolizes a milestone for the Customs cooperation between the two countries. Through the Administrative Directive, traders awarded AEO status from both Taiwan and Israel are able to enjoy preferential treatments at the other side, such as much lower cargo examination rates and simplified clearance procedures. Therefore, it will have a far-reaching impact on the bilateral trade through strengthening supply chain security and providing trade facilitation, and in turn, enhance the international competitiveness of traders in the respective countries.

Taiwan Customs has implemented its AEO program since December 2009, and there have been 616 AEOs as of today, including 365 general AEOs and 251 Safety and Security AEOs. In addition, Taiwan already signed AEO MRA with the United States and Singapore in November 2012 and July 2013 respectively. In view of the fact that the trade volume between Taiwan and Israel in 2012 amounted to NT$43 billion, signing the MRA will bring substantial economic benefits to both sides.
