Taipei Customs seized raw Japanese beef at Taipei Songshan Airport

On March 30, 2017, a ROC national returning from Tokyo, Japan was intercepted at Taipei Songshan Airport while passing through the “Nothing to Declare” channel (Green Channel). According to Taipei Customs, 4.5kgs of raw beef concealed in the traveler's baggage was uncovered. The case was immediately transferred to Keelung Branch Office Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture. The above-mentioned beef would be destroyed and, as the traveler failed to declare what should have been declared, a fine would be imposed on him.

Taipei Customs further pointed out that raw beef imports are subject to quarantine measures, and travelers returning from vacation carrying fruits, live animals, plants and their products, or dutiable goods, are advised to declare voluntarily to avoid penalty. To help safeguard food safety and public health, Taipei Customs has been, and will be dedicated to strengthening border enforcement actions in this regard.
