The meeting was regarded as an extremely fruitful and successful one by both sides.

According to Customs Administration, the said dialouge was hosted by Mr. Ping Jao, Director General of the Administration. Directors from various departments of the Administration also attended this dialouge meeting. It touched upon a wide range of Custom-related issues raised by ECCT members, such as Power of Attorney requirements for express consignments, the development of the Customs-Port-Trade Single Window system, and the possibility of harmonizing the formats of various temporary admission carnets.

DG Jao stressed that suggestions or even criticisms from ECCT members would be always welcome, as they could urge the Customs to check out whether services it provided could live up to traders’ expectations. Aside from discussions over issues raised by ECCT members, DG Jao also highlighted a couple of innovative initiatives that Taiwan Customs has launched in recent years. Those initiatives were introduced for the purpose of streamlining clearance procedures and thus facilitating trade.

Customs Administration further pointed out that, during the above-mentioned dialouge, not only were all of the questions forwarded by ECCT members actively discussed by participants, but also those questions were given positive reponses or assigned dedicated contacts for further review.

ECCT members were very much impressed by the sincerity and determinaion that Customs Administration expressed in addressing their concerns. Consequently, both sides agreed that the dialougue was constructive and productive, and similar meetings would be held when necessary.
