Kaohsiung Customs Seizes Smuggled Shiitake, Cigarettes and Drugs

In collaboration with the Kaohsiung Office of Investigation Bureau’s Maritime Affairs Field Office, Kaohsiung Customs’ Qijin Branch intercepted a suspicious container imported from Shekou in China’s Guangdong Province, at an import warehouse in Kaohsiung, on March 18, 2013. After all the cargoes were unstuffed from the container and sniffed by a detector dog, Customs officers found 5,370 kilograms of China-originated shiitake and 72 cases of smuggled cigarettes.

In the meantime, thanks to the acrid smell from a shipment, Kaohsiung Customs’ inspectors and Detector Dog Unit jointly busted 75 kilograms of Ketamine concealed in an imported huge crate. Besides, the Customs also uncovered 44 cases of shiitake, 106 cases of mushroom and 96 cases of cigarettes hidden in another container.

In view of the fact that smuggling drugs and agricultural products from China to Taiwan is rampant nowadays, the Customs will redouble its efforts to crack down on these illicit trafficking activities at borders, so as to ensure public health and safeguard domestic farmers’ interests.
